Wrap Up: June 2021

Hi and welcome to the reading world!

Today I’m sharing my monthly wrap up post for June 2021! My reading has definitely decreased in quantity, but I’m finding more favorite reads out of the ones I do pick up and so I’m definitely not complaining!

For those new to monthly wrap ups on the blog, I share a mini recap of every book I read on my Bookstagram at the end of each month. Here on the blog, I share my favorites and highlights from my reading and blogging, as well as discuss any readathons and reading challenges I’ve been participating in!

Without further ado, let’s dive into my reads, challenges, and blogging this month!

What’s on the Shelves:

Favorite Reads:

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

Read this if you’re in the mood for: a fantasy novel unlike anything you’ve read, that combines elements of dystopia and technological elements with an incredible magic system that is both intuitively understood and built out in the story. This book and the trilogy as a whole are lauded by readers and awards alike for good reason, and I can’t wait to read on and pick up more books by N.K. Jemisin!

George by Alex Gino

Read this if you’re in the mood for: a novel that is concise but carries incredible depth and an exploration of understanding LGBTQIA+ identities through the perspective of young individuals and their communities and families . This story made me laugh at times, and also had incredibly emotional and thought provoking moments. I read this one on audio, but I definitely plan to pick up and read a physical copy as well.

My Reviews:

The Maidens

A Special Place for Women

My Favorite Book Lists: I’m adding this to monthly wrap ups since I’ve been sharing a lot of recommendations and book list style posts! I love getting to write these and share some books according to specific themes and ideas!

Recommendations: LGBTQIA+ Reads

Recommendations: Fantasy Vol I is where I spotlighted some fantasy reads I’ve loved that are inspired by settings around the world!

Recommendations: If You Liked That Try This Vol 2

Challenge and Read-a-thon Check Ins:

Library Savings Challenge: This is hosted by @bylaurencapellan on Bookstagram and is a challenge to see the cost of the books you saved by going to the library! As I’m trying to read my already owned TBR or utilize my library before buying other books, this is one I’m so excited to be participating in!

June Savings: 50.29

Total 2021 Savings: 771.56

The Free Black Women’s Library Reading Challenge:

Hosted by The Free Black Women’s Library, this challenge is to read 25 books by Black women or non-binary authors with the featured prompts throughout the year of 2021.

Number of prompts read in June: 1

Total number of prompts read: 19 out of 25

Shimmering Worlds Reading Challenge:

This is a challenge hosted by @afantasysky on Bookstagram that features prompts to complete by reading sci fi and fantasy books by BIPOC authors! I love the creativity of the prompts and getting to expand my sci fi and fantasy reading while also reading some incredible BIPOC authors.

Number of prompts read in June: 0

Total prompts read: 9 out of 13

How was your June reading? And are you a fan of reading a lot of books and finding a few favorites from those or reading much less but almost all the books you finish become favorites?

Thank you for stopping by!
